Vidyo Secures $25 Million for Videoconferencing Solutions

Hackensack, NJ -- April 1, 2010 – Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced a $25 million Series C round of financing, bringing the total amount of capital raised by the company to $63 million since its founding in 2005. All existing investors, Menlo Ventures, Rho Ventures, Seven-Rosen Funds and Star Ventures, participated in the round, which was led by Four Rivers Group. The funding enables Vidyo to expand its sales and marketing efforts to meet the global market demand for desktop and room-based HD multipoint video conferencing systems.

"Personal telepresence is a nascent, quickly growing market and our continued expansion is evidence that companies recognize the availability of a game-changing video conferencing solution that provides telepresence-quality at a price point that supports massive deployment,” said Ofer Shapiro, CEO and co-founder of Vidyo. "Vidyo is fortunate to have been recognized by outstanding investors who understand the growth and transformation occurring today in the videoconferencing market across HD room systems, PC and Mac desktops, laptops, netbooks, and soon smart phones, and to have been rewarded for our performance."

Vidyo was recently named to the Wall Street Journal’s “Next Big Thing” List of top venture-backed private companies for its ground-breaking technology that delivers low latency, multipoint videoconferencing over any IP network including the Internet or LTE, 3G or 4G networks. The WSJ List ranks the company’s Board of Directors as 4th among the top 50 companies. In October 2009, Vidyo was awarded a patent on its VidyoRouter™ architecture, which leverages H.264 SVC, the latest standard in video compression technology.

“The video conferencing market will undergo exponential growth in the next five years, and new leaders will emerge as MCU-based room systems and expensive high-QoS network-based immersive telepresence rooms are usurped by video conferencing solutions that provide natural interaction and scale affordably to accommodate mass deployment, ” said Avery More, Vidyo co-founder and Chairman. “Vidyo is leading the innovation charge in the video conferencing industry today and has emerged as a disruptive force as the market moves from video conferencing for a few, to solutions for everyone, wherever they are and whenever they need to meet."

Polycom Sets New Standard for Room Telepresence System Capabilities

Polycom boosts standard features on room telepresence systems delivering the industry’s only UltimateHD user experience at half the bandwidth across entire HDX product line

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Apr 06, 2010 : Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in telepresence, video, and voice communications solutions, today announced expanded standard capabilities for its entire line of standards-based Polycom HDX room telepresence systems, including 1080p high definition (HD) video at up to 50 percent less bandwidth, to ensure an optimal, UltimateHD™ user experience.

Unique to Polycom, UltimateHD combines industry-leading high-definition video, voice and content-sharing capabilities to deliver a life-like collaboration experience that enables people to work across distances as effectively as if they were in the same room, which can improve organizational productivity, accelerate decision making and reduce costs.

"Customers are embracing visual communications faster than ever, extending its use across their organizations, and looking to integrate video into their unified communications environments," said Joe Sigrist, senior vice president and general manager of video communications, Polycom. "To support this growth, the expanding applications, and to ensure the best possible user experience, Polycom is making our industry-leading UltimateHD capabilities standard across all of our Polycom HDX room telepresence systems. This includes support for our Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners, beginning with native integration in Microsoft UC environments."

"As video conferencing is being rapidly adopted across our company, the quality of the experience is more important than ever," said Jonathan Zwang, senior director of technology services, Tyco. "Polycom is relentless in raising the bar by continuing to enhance its high definition video and audio capabilities, which, in turn, drives even greater adoption across our company. With Polycom’s interoperability and continued integration with Microsoft and others, we can have confidence that our existing technology infrastructure investments are protected."

The new portfolio of Polycom HDX room telepresence solutions (6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 models) now features many industry-leading and industry-first capabilities as standard features, including:

HD Video with Lowest Bandwidth Requirements (Industry First) - All systems are now 1080p capable and include support for H.264 High Profile, a breakthrough video compression technology that delivers HD video quality at significantly lower bandwidth than competing systems (up to 50 percent bandwidth savings).
HD Voice for Unrivalled Audio Clarity (Industry Leading) - Systems include standard support for Polycom StereoSurround™, super-wideband stereo audio (22kHz), including conversational stereo. This spatial audio can dramatically improve comprehension during telepresence meetings by helping people easily distinguish between multiple speakers - especially when people are speaking at the same time. A few competing systems offer stereo audio - but it is limited to simple stereo pass through from shared content only (i.e. when playing a DVD or stereo CD).
HD Content Sharing - Multiple Methods Support the Broadest Applications (Industry First) - Systems enable users to share content, using standards-based H.239 technology, both through wired and wireless (using wireless broadband connection) options form their laptop. Polycom HDX 8000™ and 9000 systems also now include Polycom People On Content, a breakthrough "green screen" (chroma key) technology, also known as the "weatherman" feature, which allows content to be displayed behind the presenter and sends both people and content in a single video stream to any standards-based system. Additionally, Polycom HDX 7000™, 8000 and 9000 solutions now support 720p at 30 frames per second (fps) in the content stream, while maintaining 720p or 1080p HD resolution for the people stream.
Native Integration for Microsoft Unified Communications Environments (Industry First) - Systems now include native integration for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Polycom plans to add standard support for additional Polycom Open Collaboration Network UC environments in the future.
Breakthrough Quality of Experience (Industry First) - Systems feature Polycom Lost Packet Recovery (LPR) technology, which ensures a consistent, high-quality experience over best-effort networks and public internet connections – even during packet loss.
In addition, Polycom also announced a new all-in-one room telepresence system that is quick to install and set up for a list price of US$9,999. The Polycom HDX 6000™ View Media Center features an HDX 6000 with EagleEye™ View Camera integrated with 42" HD LCD monitor on a table-top stand, a high-fidelity 60-watt sound system with built-in subwoofer, integrated microphones and remote control.

Pricing and availability
The new Polycom HDX room telepresence portfolio (6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 series) is orderable now and available this quarter. Polycom HDX room system pricing begins at US$4,999. Multipoint capability can be added to Polycom HDX 7000, 8000 and 9000 systems as an option.

TANDBERG Introduces the Clinical Presence System (CPS), the Teleconferencing Solution Designed by Medical Professionals for Point of Care Applications

Press Release

TANDBERG Introduces the Clinical Presence System (CPS), the Teleconferencing Solution Designed by Medical Professionals for Point of Care Applications
New solution will help increase the quality of patient care and speed the administration of life-saving treatments via video conferencing

New York, NY, April 5, 2010 – Reinforcing its leadership in the rapidly growing telemedicine market, TANDBERG today expanded its award-winning telehealth offerings with the introduction of the new TANDBERG Clinical Presence System (CPS). Available in the U.S. and Canada, the CPS is the first teleconferencing solution designed collaboratively with medical professionals to offer the functionality and flexibility needed for use in medical institutions at the point of care.

With specialists sometimes unavailable in emergency rooms and rural areas, many patients are forced to wait until one can arrive, or have to be transported to a hospital where a specialist is present. This increases costs for patients and hospitals, but more importantly, wastes critical time for the delivery of care. The TANDBERG CPS allows specialists to be instantly available at the point of care via video, helping speed the administration of medicines and life-saving treatments.

“The TANDBERG CPS is the next generation in video communication for point of care," said Andrew W. Davis, senior partner, Wainhouse Research. “TANDBERG again proves they are a driving force in telemedicine – providing the image quality, system dependability, and device interoperability the company is known for. The CPS is a unique industrial design that reflects the specific requirements of medical professionals.”

"TANDBERG has long been the leader in connecting doctors to patients through teleconferencing solutions, helping provide instant and accurate care to patients via video," said Joel Brunson, President, Public Sector at TANDBERG. "The introduction of the TANDBERG CPS will help bring video to the forefront of modern medicine by allowing more patients to receive the best possible care even when a specialist is miles away."

Key features of the TANDBERG CPS:

High definition video quality: A 1080p full high-definition system with PrecisionHD 12x optical zoom camera provide the clearest possible picture and position for maximum field of view
Optional power configurations: Wireless and rechargeable battery versions of the CPS provide increased mobility and range
Modular storage options: Multiple optional storage configurations provide medical professionals with the ability to store and transport medical devices, laptops, PCs, keyboards and light sources
Ruggedized exterior: Tactile membrane control on front panel and disposable splash guards ensure increased sterility and durability needed in telemedicine environments

The TANDBERG CPS is touring the U.S. on the TANDBERG Technology Showcase roadshow – upcoming dates and locations are available at http://response.tandberg.com/?elqPURLPage=1136

TANDBERG’s video conferencing solutions have the exclusive endorsement of the American Hospital Association (AHA). TANDBERG also has a long-standing relationship with the American Telemedicine Association. For more information about the TANDBERG CPS or TANDBERG Total Healthcare, visit www.TANDBERG.com.

Avaya Collaborates with LifeSize Communications to Enable HD Video Conferencing for Avaya Unified Communications

Solution will enable more employees to easily collaborate via video over multiple locations in businesses with mixed communications environments

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., March 17, 2010 – Avaya today announced an agreement with LifeSize Communications to establish interoperability between the Avaya Aura™ unified communications (UC) platform and LifeSize HD video conferencing systems. The combined solutions will enable broad-scale deployment of HD video conferencing with the high-quality and flexibility of LifeSize video systems and the centralized management and control capabilities of Avaya Aura.

Using the SIP-based Avaya Aura, enterprises will be able to distribute video conferencing capabilities over multiple locations in businesses with multi-vendor environments. Employees will be able to easily collaborate with each other by video -- regardless of the communications system which serves their specific location. IT will enjoy low bandwidth utilization, streamlined management, and lower costs by routing video over their internal network.

“As working environments become increasingly distributed, video communications provide an outstanding ability to draw teams together and enable effective collaboration as part of a cohesive unified communication experience,” said Alan Baratz, senior vice president and president, Global Communications Solutions, Avaya. “Avaya’s work with LifeSize Communications and others will help make it easier and more cost-effective for companies to deploy video to employees at all levels of their organization.”

“Avaya’s leadership in the enterprise and LifeSize’s proven HD video solutions are an ideal combination for organizations seeking to easily and broadly deploy high quality video communications to fundamentally improve their business,” said Craig Malloy, chief executive officer of LifeSize Communications. “Interoperability with Avaya is yet another step forward to delivering on the promise of video communications for anyone, everywhere.”

Organizations that want a choice of video anywhere will benefit from the resulting solution. LifeSize high definition video can be easily deployed, and is a cost-effective solution delivering superior HD quality for small or large group video conferencing. Avaya Aura enables the centralized deployment of audio, video and web applications over multiple locations, as well as the creation of “application profiles” based on employee needs.

Companies will be able to more broadly extend access to video conferencing to those individual workers or teams that are moderately to highly collaborative, thus increasing their productivity and benefiting from a low total cost of ownership. In addition, with Avaya Aura, organizations can realize network savings and increased control by combining audio and video onto a single network, and establishing network-aware bandwidth management policies to control usage and deliver a high quality user-experience.

LifeSize is a Platinum member of the Avaya DevConnect program - an initiative to develop, market and sell innovative third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a company’s investment in its network. Through the program, products undergo rigorous compatibility testing by a team of Avaya engineers. Doing so ensures businesses can confidently add best-in-class capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure—speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation cost.

According to the 2010 Frost and Sullivan World Videoconferencing Endpoints Market Report, the total revenues for the worldwide videoconferencing endpoints market reached an estimated $1.25 billion in 2009.*

"As video gets increasingly incorporated into larger enterprise communications suites, it is largely shifting from a point solution to integrated collaboration," said Roopam Jain, principal analyst, Frost and Sullivan. "Moreover, mass adoption of video will largely happen through integrated applications and unified communications solutions."

Tandberg Video Communication Server

The Video Communication Server (VCS) is an integral part of the TANDBERG Total Solution and is the center of the video communications network, connecting the benefits of video conferencing and telepresence to other communications environments including unified communications and IP Telephony networks.

TANDBERG believes that video creates a community of users, not an island of communication. The VCS makes that community possible with a seamless, scalable solution.

VCS enables video communications devices to interoperate with unified communications and Voice over IP solutions, providing the end user the best experience possible no matter what device they are using to communicate. As more organizations adopt personal video systems, VCS is built to support highly scalable deployments.

VCS offers users of "personal" video the features they demand, such as FindMe™ and Multiway™.

VCS supports the network administrator by providing large-scale installation and management tools that make deploying and managing the video network easier.
